Hello everyone!
Hope everyone is enjoying the new school years so far. Almost three weeks of school has gone by and CUJA’s first social event of the year is coming around. The annual icebreaker is scheduled on this Friday, September 30 at Carleton University Ice House 2406. We will be serving some snacks and play some Japanese games. This will be a great time to meet people who share the same interest in Japan as you and practice your language with our Japanese members as well as experience a little Japanese culture through the games.
For those of you who have not got your membership yet, we will still be collecting membership fee tomorrow. Membership card will also be handed out tomorrow for everyone who has paid.
See you all!

Hello Japan lovers!
It has been a while since we saw each other last April. Summer has gone by and now CUJA is back for yet another year. This year, we will be welcoming some new execs who are very committed to making CUJA a great place for everyone interested in Japan. As this is our third year of operation, we -the exec team- call ourselves “CUJA in 3D”.
Our events this year include CUJA’s classic Maid Cafe, Karaoke Night, Ski Trip, etc… along with Movie Nights, Culture Night and many more. “CUJA in 3D” hope to see all of you soon!
Our first event, the icebreaker is scheduled to be coming this Friday, September 30. We are looking forward to seeing you all!

Carleton University is proudly hosting the Oto-Wa Taiko Japanese drumming group and Dagaku children’s group to help survivors of the recent earthquake/tsunami in Japan. With the powerful sounds of Japanese drums, they hope their prayers and energy will travel overseas to those affected by the earthquake/tsunami.
The event will take place this Friday April 1, 2011 at 7:00pm in Kailash Mital Theatre (Southam Hall), Carleton University. Admission is $10.00 and tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis so make sure to get there early to avoid disappointment! Parking is available in Parking Lot 1 for a flat-rate of $6.00 after 5:00pm. Please see Map for directions.
Please visit Oto-Wa Taiko’s Website for more information about this event and the drumming group.

Hi Everyone,
We’d to start by saying the past week has been incredibly emotional, not only because of the images of Japan that continued to fill the news, but rather primarily because of the positive reaction that we experienced from the Carleton community. The fundraiser was a huge success, with about $14, 500 raised in only 5 days. Our donors left so much more than a monetary value- they have left us with warmth, compassion, and hope.
Support has also come from friends who have donated cookies in exchange for all donations (courtesy of Boko Bakery), art work (courtesy of Eepmon) and handmade jewelry (courtesy of Mika Yoshimoto). Many students also donated their time and donated to this cause – CUJA members and non-members alike. Without them, we would not have been able to mobilize as quickly and with such force as we did.
We have also had huge support from the Carleton University administration, in particular Roseann O’Reilly Runte (President and Vice-Chancellor) and Suzanne Blanchard (Associate Vice President) who helped us inform the community on a scale that CUJA could only hope to be reach. They also arranged for us to have a table despite there being no available spaces to rent out. They also continued to check up on us with kind words of support.
The instructors of Japanese Language (Yoko Azuma-Prikryl, Elizabeth Sowka, and Mika Yoshimoto) have also been part of our support team, giving words of encouragement and helping CUJA spread its hopeful message. Fellow clubs and associations have also been very supportive, including the Muslim Students Association (who supported us while we were haphazardly putting this event together). Many other groups and associations have also committed themselves to our cause, and will be holding events in the coming weeks with portions of their proceeds going towards disaster relief efforts. We will continue to update here with information as it develops.
We cannot begin to express our gratitude to all members of Carleton University for their support. You have validated our belief that there is no better place for CUJA to exist. You have shown great resolve and great kindness to not only us at CUJA but also to the people in the affected areas of Japan. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Love always,
CUJA
